About this Pattern:
When I was a child and teenager, there were always lots of bats flying around in my parents' backyard when it started getting dark. I loved watching them. They fly so fast and make such interesting and sudden movements. I always thought it was really special to watch.

When I moved out, I was happy to discover that bats fly around here too. Which is actually quite surprising, because we don't exactly live in a rural area. There are no tall trees or good places for them to hide nearby, but somehow, they still come from somewhere.

I'm looking forward to showing them to my son when he is a little older.

So here is a C2C bat pattern, because bats are such cool animals and not scary at all! Also cute as a Halloween Bat! Use it to make a baby blanket, tote bag or cushion cover.

Materials:
  • 3.0 mm hook
  • darning needle to weave in ends
  • DK yarn
  • scissors
  • optional: stitch markers
Yarn colours:
Dark purple
Lavender
Black
White
Orange
Any colour you wish to use for the background. Pics below for inspo.

Colour Counts:
The 50 x 50 grid contains 2,500 squares in total. Here is the number of squares for each colour:
Dark purple: 403
Lavender: 86
Black: 291
White: 18
Orange: 37
Background: 1665

The colour counts tell you how many squares of each colour are used in the graph. They don't tell you exactly how much yarn you'll need, as this can vary depending on your yarn, hook size and tension.

Size:
With a 3.0 mm hook and DK yarn, for me this works up to about 72 x 72 cm (28 x 28 inches). But, this may vary depending on your yarn weight, hook size, and tension.
Gauge: 5 rows measure approximately 6 cm (2.3 inches).

Can I make this C2C Bat with a different yarn weight?
Yes, definitely! Keep in mind that using a different yarn weight can change the finished size of your project quite a bit. I recommend making a small swatch first to see how your yarn and hook combination affects the size before starting the entire project.

Free pattern Beaded Flower Bookmark About this pattern: I've been seeing beaded crochet patterns all over Facebook lately and it piqued my interest. Last time I saw someone making a beaded spider, without actually crocheting on the beads, but simply putting them on the starting yarn. That's when I got the idea to make a bookmark. I was reading a book and using a supermarket receipt as a bookmark. I could do with an upgrade. I made this pattern for books that measure about 23 cm (9 inches). Keep that in mind if your books are much bigger or smaller.  The length is easy to adjust.
