Mushroom Bag Charm


About this Pattern:
This no-sew Mushroom Bag Charm is a quick and beginner-friendly crochet project that's perfect for using up small amounts of DK yarn. Make one in your favourite colours or combine different sizes for a playful accessory to decorate your bag, backpack, or keychain.

Materials:
  • 3.0 mm crochet hook
  • DK yarn in 1 colour for the cap
  • DK yarn in 1 colour for the stem
  • stuffing for the big mushroom
  • scissors
  • darning needle
  • optional: stitch markers

Abbreviations (US):
MC = magic circle
sc = single crochet
inc = increase
dec = decrease
FLO = front loop only
sl st = slip stitch
ch = chain

Small Mushroom:
You will be working in continuous rounds. The Small Mushroom is not stuffed.

Start with cap colour. 
R1: 6 sc in MC (6)
R2: 6 sc (6)
R3: 6 inc (12)
R4: 12 sc (12)
R5: FLO (1 sc, inc) x6 (18)
2 sl st, fasten off. 

Switch to stem colour.
Attach the new colour to the first unworked stitch of R4 with a slip knot.


R6: 6 dec (6)
R7-10: 6 sc (6)

Fasten off. Sew the hole closed through the front loops only. Pull the thread through the centre and gently tug to make the stem less pointy.
Weave in ends.


Big Mushroom:
You will be working in continuous rounds.

Start with cap colour.
R1: 6 sc in MC (6)
R2: 6 sc (6)
R3: 6 inc (12)
R4: 12 sc (12)
R5: (1 sc, inc) x6 (18)
R6: 18 sc (18)
R7: FLO (2 sc, inc) x6 (24)
2 sl st, fasten off.

Switch to stem colour.
Attach the new colour to the first unworked stitch of R6 with a slip knot.

R8: (1 sc, dec) x6 (12)
Add a small amount of stuffing. Stuff very lightly.

R9: 6 dec (6)
R10-13: 6 sc (6)

Fasten off. Sew the hole closed through the front loops only. Pull the thread through the centre and gently tug to make the stem less pointy.
Weave in ends.

Now we'll connect the mushrooms with a chain.
Attach cap colour yarn with a slip knot to the MC of one mushroom.
Ch 33. 
Sl st to the MC of the other mushroom.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.


You can make the chain longer or shorter depending on how low or high you'd like the mushrooms to hang.

If you wish, you can embroider some spots on the caps.


Mix and match colours and sizes to create your perfect Mushroom Bag Charm.


How to Attach It to Your Bag
Fold the chain in half to make a loop.
Place the loop behind the handle or strap you want to attach it to.
Pull both mushrooms through the loop.
Pull tight.

Free pattern Beaded Flower Bookmark About this pattern: I've been seeing beaded crochet patterns all over Facebook lately and it piqued my interest. Last time I saw someone making a beaded spider, without actually crocheting on the beads, but simply putting them on the starting yarn. That's when I got the idea to make a bookmark. I was reading a book and using a supermarket receipt as a bookmark. I could do with an upgrade. I made this pattern for books that measure about 23 cm (9 inches). Keep that in mind if your books are much bigger or smaller.  The length is easy to adjust. Simply add or remove chains from the stem to make it fit your favourite book. You can use a range of bead sizes. You'll need to be able to fit exactly 4 chains around each bead. I used 6 mm beads.
