Materials:
3.0 mm hook
darning needle to weave in ends
DK yarn
optional: stitch markers

Yarn colours:
Black
Dark brown
Lighter brown
Orange-ish brown
Any colour you wish to use for the background.

This grid is 40x40 squares.

With a 3.0 mm hook and DK yarn, for me this works up to about 60 cm (23 inches). But, this may vary depending on your yarn weight, hook size, and tension.

Like most of us, I started crocheting with inexpensive crochet hooks. Mine were simple metal hooks without soft grips, bought from Action (a discount store in the Netherlands).
