About this Pattern:
Since I was very young, my family has always had dachshunds. We had two when I was growing up, and the second one was quite a character. She was incredibly fast and seemed to chew through absolutely everything. I still remember waking up one morning to find her running around the living room after she had chewed her way through her dog bed.

My parents still have one dachshund today. Sadly, our other dachshund passed away three months ago. They have decided not to get another one, as they would like to travel more.

I don't have any pets myself. I would love to have a dog, but with both of us working, we don't feel it's the right choice for us at the moment. And, to be completely honest, my boyfriend isn't quite as crazy about dachshunds as I am.

So, since I can't fill my house with dachshunds, I decided to put one on a crochet blanket instead! This free C2C dachshund crochet pattern is my way of combining two things I love: dachshunds and crochet.

This free C2C Dachshund crochet pattern features a simple 40 x 40 pixel graph, making it suitable for baby blankets, cushions, wall hangings and other corner-to-corner crochet projects. Whether you're making a gift for a dachshund lover or adding a dog-themed design to your home, this pattern is a fun and relaxing project.

Materials:
  • 3.0 mm hook
  • darning needle to weave in ends
  • DK yarn
  • scissors
  • optional: stitch markers

Yarn colours:
Black
Dark brown
Lighter brown
Orange-ish brown
Any colour you wish to use for the background.

Colour Counts:
The 40 x 40 grid contains 1,600 squares in total. Here is the number of squares for each colour:
Black: 20
Dark brown: 69
Lighter brown: 333
Orange-ish brown: 99
Background: 1,079

The colour counts tell you how many squares of each colour are used in the graph. They don't tell you exactly how much yarn you'll need, as this can vary depending on your yarn, hook size and tension.

Size:
With a 3.0 mm hook and DK yarn, for me this works up to about 60 x 60 cm (23 x 23 inches). But, this may vary depending on your yarn weight, hook size, and tension.
Gauge: 5 rows measure approximately 6 cm (2.3 inches).

FAQ

Can I make this C2C Giraffe with a different yarn weight?
Yes, definitely! Keep in mind that using a different yarn weight can change the finished size of your project quite a bit. I recommend making a small swatch first to see how your yarn and hook combination affects the size before starting the entire project.
