Toby the Toilet Paper Roll



About this pattern:
You might be wondering WHY I would make a toilet paper roll plushie. But you are here, so you must have searched for it, right?

I saw someone on Instagram with a toilet paper roll plush from Jellycat, and it gave me the idea to create my own crochet version.

There are other toilet paper roll crochet patterns out there, but this one has an actual hole in the middle!

Pattern Notes:

- This pattern is worked in continuous rounds.
- You can use any size safety eyes you prefer.
- The finished size may vary depending on your yarn, hook size and tension.

Materials:

  • 3.0 mm hook for the smaller size (7 cm / 2.7 inches tall)
  • 3.5 mm hook for the bigger size (8 cm / 3.15 inches tall)
  • stuffing
  • white and beige DK yarn
  • 9 mm safety eyes, or any size you prefer
  • darning needle
  • scissors
  • optional: stitch markers

Abbreviations (US):
sc = single crochet
ss = slip stitch 
MC = magic circle
inc = increase
dec = decrease. I like to do an invisible decrease.
BLO = back loop only

Pattern:
You will be working in continuous rounds. 

Start with beige yarn.

R1: ch 24 (24). Leave a long starting tail to sew in later.

R2: Starting in the first ch of R1, join to form a circle, 24 sc (24)



R3-17: 24 sc (24)

After R17, ss in BLO and fasten off.


Switch to white yarn. Attach with a slip knot to BLO of last sc of R17 on the back side of your work, see photos.



R18: Starting in the same stitch where you attached the yarn, work in BLO: (3 sc, 1 inc) x6 (30)

R19: 2 sc, inc, (4 sc, inc) x5, sc (36)

R20: (5 sc, inc) x6 (42)

R21: 3 sc, inc, (6 sc, inc) x5, 3 sc (48)

R22: (7 sc, inc) x6 (54)

R23: 4 sc, inc, (8 sc, inc) x5, 4 sc (60)

R24: BLO 60 sc (60)

R25-40: 60 sc (60)


Insert the safety eyes around R29, leaving about 5 or 6 stitches between them. Check the placement before securing them.

Start stuffing and shaping.

R41: BLO 4 sc, dec, (8 sc, dec) x5, 4 sc (54)

R42: (7 sc, dec) x6 (48)

R43: 3 sc, dec, (6 sc, dec) x5, 3 sc (42)

R44: (5 sc, dec) x6 (36)

R45: 2 sc, dec, (4 sc, dec) x5, 2 sc (30)

Finish stuffing.

R46: This last round will attach the white section to the beige section. Work the stitches through both R45 and the foundation chains of R1.

Fasten off.

Weave in your ends.


Legs (make 2):
You will be working in continuous rounds. 

Use white yarn

R1: 6 sc in MC (6)

R2: 6 inc (12)

R3: (1 sc, inc) x6 (18)

R4: 18 sc (18)

R5: 6 sc, 3 dec, 6 sc (15)

R6: 5 sc, dec, 1 sc, dec, 5 sc (13)

R7: 4 sc, 3 dec, 3 sc (10)

Stuff foot.

R8-9: 10 sc (10)

R10: (1 dec, 3 sc) x2 (8)

Ss, fasten off with long tail for sewing.

Finish stuffing the leg.

Paper flap:

Work in rows.

Row 1: ch 15. Leave a long tail for sewing to the body.

Row 2: starting in second ch from the hook, 14 sc, ch 1 and turn (14)

Row 3: 14 sc, ch 1 and turn (14)

Row 4: 14 sc, ch 1 and turn (14)

Row 5: 14 sc, ch 1 and turn (14)

Row 6: 14 sc, ch 1, and fasten off (14)


Assembly:

Sew the legs to the body. I placed them slightly wider apart than the eyes and left one unworked round between the legs and the bottom of the body.

Sew the paper flap wherever you like. I recommend sewing the side with the foundation chain to the body, as this edge is flatter and will lie more neatly against the body.

Using a strand of black yarn, embroider a mouth.

Weave in all remaining ends.

Free pattern Beaded Flower Bookmark About this pattern: I've been seeing beaded crochet patterns all over Facebook lately and it piqued my interest. Last time I saw someone making a beaded spider, without actually crocheting on the beads, but simply putting them on the starting yarn.
