Free Crochet Pattern Easy Flower with Double Petals

Free No-Sew Crochet Pattern
Easy Flower
with Double Petals

About this Pattern:
I designed this little flower because I wanted a simple crochet flower with a little something extra. Instead of having just one layer of petals, this flower has two layers, giving it a fuller and more playful look.

The best part is that it is completely no-sew. The two layers of petals are crocheted directly onto the centre, so there is no need to sew the petals together afterwards. This makes it a quick and satisfying project, even if you are new to crochet.

I love how much you can change the look of this flower simply by choosing different colours. Use a contrasting colour for the centre and petals, or make the whole flower in one colour for a more subtle look.

The finished flower is small and versatile. You can use it as an appliqué, turn it into a cute bag charm, make a bookmark, or even use it to create a pair of colourful earrings. Have fun experimenting with different colours and finding your favourite way to use your flowers!

Materials:
  • 3.5 mm hook
  • DK-weight yarn in 3 colours
  • darning needle

Abbreviations (US terms):
sc = single crochet
ch = chain
hdc = half double crochet
MC = magic circle
ss = slip stitch
BLO = back loop only
FLO = front loop only

Size:
The finished size will depend on your yarn weight, hook size, and tension. Using a 3.5 mm hook and DK-weight yarn, these flowers measure approximately 7 cm (2.75 inches) across at the widest point.

Pattern:

Flower Centre:
Start with the Centre Colour yarn.

R1: 8 sc in MC (8).
Ss in the first stitch.
Fasten off.

Back petals:
Switch to the Back Petal Colour yarn.

Attach the yarn with a slip knot to the BLO.

R2: Ch 7. Starting in the second ch from the hook, work 1 sc, 5 hdc.
Ss in the BLO of the next stitch, ch 7, and repeat around. Continue until you have 8 petals. Do not work into the ss from the previous round.
After the last petal, ss in the BLO of the first stitch and fasten off.

Front Petals:
Switch to the Front Petal Colour yarn.

Attach the yarn with a slip knot to any FLO.

R3: Ch 5. Starting in the second ch from the hook, work 1 sc, 3 hdc.
Ss to the FLO, ch 5, and repeat around. Continue until you have 8 petals. Do not work into the ss from the previous round.

After the last petal, ss to the FLO of the first stitch and fasten off.

Now tidy up the flower: pull the MC closed and weave in the ends. I like to tie a small knot for each colour before trimming the ends.

If you'd like more petals, simply start with more sc in your MC and repeat back and front petals accordingly.
